Favorite Biodiesel Retailers
• Fourth Dimension Fuels (www.fourthdimensionfuels.com) Megan Hartman started Fourth Dimension in 2003 as a retail outlet in order to provide her community with biodiesel (B99), biofuels education and organic and natural foods. In addition to being an empowered entrepreneur, she’s also the kind of person who will make a 3:00 am delivery of 60 gallons of biodiesel to help out traveling friends. Fourth Dimension is worth the stop if you’re passing through the Tuscon area. They’re located at 1395 W. American Ave, Oracle, Arizona.

• SeQuential Biofuels (www.sqbiofuels.com) SQ was started in 2002 as a biofuels marketing and distributing company, and has grown to a biodiesel production facility and retail distribution network of 20 stations in Oregon and Southern Washington. They opened and amazing retail station in 2006 featuring many sustainable design elements, including a solar array canopy over the pumps, a living roof, a passive solar building, and groundwater cleaning bioswales. These folks, including Ian Hill, Thomas Endicott and Tyson Keever, are also biodiesel heroes.

• Alamo Biodiesel (www.alamobiodiesel.com) Founded by Jason Rose in San Antonio, Alamo produces and retails biodiesel from recycled restaurant oil and virgin oil feedstocks. Rose operates Alamo with his partners Raul Sanchez and Casey Zamzow. They have a pretty inspiring operation going, and they offer biodiesel at the lowest price I’ve seen anywhere. The station is a little tough to find, so check the map before you go.

• Footprint Recycling (www.footprintrecycling.com) Footprint is out of Arcata, California on the northern coast, and it’s run by a group of local Humboldt State University graduates: Andy Cooper, Mike Koger, Todd Frisbee and Mohamed Jemmali. Footprint biodiesel is produced solely from waste restaurant grease collected from over 150 local kitchens. CEO Andy Cooper insists that it’s possible to produce extremely high quality biodiesel from waste grease (with a gel point of 15F) as long as the producers take their time and use the right processes. Footprint also produces medium duty soap from the leftover glycerin.

• Prairie Fire Cooperative (www.prairiefirebiofuels.org) Located in Madison, Wisconsin, Prairie Fire is a member-owned cooperative that distributes B99 (the only B99 in about a 300 mile radius), provides service to diesel vehicles and converts diesel engines to run on straight vegetable oil with two-tank systems.

• Biofuel Oasis (www.biofueloasis.com) This worker-owner cooperative in Berkeley was founded in 2003 by some awesomely enterprising women, and has grown into a 200-member operation. They offer B99, which they purchase from People’s Fuel Cooperative and they prefer to use recycled oil from restaurants. They also stock some diesel parts, health food, informative literature and host educational seminars.
